The island is better known as “Provo” to those who frequent or live there and after you have been to “Provo” you would dream to make it your home. Our arrival was as if nothing had changed in the last 4 years, check in at immigration which took no time at all except we sat in the back of the plane, so we were last , but on the good side we didn’t have to wait for our luggage. My friend Greg arrived an hour plus before us and to no surprise he knew everyone by the exit , so when we came thru the gates the party had already started.
Getting a rental car is by far the best deal because if you like to pay $20 or more for a one way taxi 4 miles think again, our car was about $300 plus , but I go everywhere and don’t depend on a taxi. The funny thing is we got a car with a cracked winshield so make sure you have them document the shape the car is in and sign it. The excitement of being on the island again was so overwhelming and I was so excited to show Greg this place we could not pass up a perfect Rum Punch from “Junior”at Bay Bistro at the Sibonne Hotel. Finally Paradise.
I have to tell you it is a really good idea to research your destination before you go, especially with the internet and I will tell you why….Bill had made reservations at Coral Gardens which I like because it is centrally located and is still the old school large condos and not the big new mega condos with all of the toys but the rooms are small and cookie cutter like. Greg went on Trip Advisor and noticed a past guest of Coral Gardens wrote about the construction next door every morning at 6:00 am, on vacation this is not GOOD! So Bill called down and requested we not be near the construction at all, John Paul was very gracious and made sure we were in a good location and surprise surprise we had a ground floor super condo with aview of the beach and a sunset every night. Quickly we unpacked and made our way to the local IGA grocery store which is fully stocked with everything you need from booze to toiletries and baked goods ,anything you need for your stay. Remember everything is shipped onto the island and prices are not equivalent to the states prices , so don’t balk at the cost , think about the locals and what they have to pay. I can’t remember what day they get shipments in , but that is a great time to get your goods.
Back at Coral Gardens we unloaded the groceries , started Happy Hour and first night madness was about to begin. First Stop….Baci.. my favorite on the island always busy, always good, and you always meet someone you know and new friends, as we did. Greg noticed the place was packed but John the owner, remembered Bill and Scott and quickly found us a place at the open kitchen bar, and told us to relax until the calm and then we would catch up and that’s exactly how the evening went. Baci , John and the staff are all very attentive to your needs and that is what makes this place my favorite, you feel your in your favorite hometown restaurant and you are miles away in the British West Indies. Kudos to you John! At the end of the evening Greg and Scott headed to “Players Club Casino” where I tried my hand at a little roulette and slots , no I didn’t win but the hours were creeping up on us and Greg got drunk and we were quickly asked to bet more or leave .. guess what we did!
